Reinhard Schmitt (* 1950 in Halle / Saale ) is a German monument conservator and castle researcher who works primarily in the state of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Reinhard Schmitt completed a degree in Classical and Provincial Roman Archeology as well as Prehistory and Protohistory at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 1979 Schmitt has been working on behalf of the Institute for Monument Preservation, Halle office, today the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology Saxony-Anhalt .

In 1990, Schmitt was employed at the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology in Saxony-Anhalt as "Head of Building Research". Between 2004 and 2015 he was Head of Building Research at the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology in Saxony-Anhalt. Reinhard Schmitt has published numerous publications on castles and palaces as well as monasteries and churches in Saxony-Anhalt and beyond. Above all, Neuchâtel near Freyburg, Querfurt, Eckartsburg, Allstedt, Goseck, Memleben, Havelberg, Jerichow, (school) gate, Ilsenburg or Posa should be mentioned.

He has been a long-standing member of the board of the Saxony-Anhalt regional group of the German Castle Association and is the editor in charge of the series of castles and palaces in Saxony-Anhalt , of which 26 issues (2017) are already available. In addition, together with Dr. Wernfried Fieber (1940–2014) published numerous articles and inventories on small monuments in Saxony-Anhalt, in particular on peasant stones . Schmitt has been a member of the Historical Commission for Saxony-Anhalt since 2013.

Reinhard Schmitt is married and has a daughter. He lives in Halle / Saale.
