Peasant stone Domnitz

The Domnitz Farm Stone is a court stone in the town of Wettin-Löbejün in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . The small monument is under monument protection and is registered as a special stone in the soil monument directory (monument ID 428300218) .

In the center of many, but by no means all, of the villages of southern Saxony-Anhalt there was a stone that was locally different, but regionally called a peasant stone . Here, in other villages under a prominent tree or in a separate building, small legal disputes were resolved and agreements concerning the community were made.

The appearance of the peasant stones varies, but stones with a flat surface are typical. The stone in Mittelstrasse in Domnitz , on the other hand, can be described as misshapen. The triangular granite stone, which is located northwest of the church on an open space at the manor, is only 75 by 70 centimeters, so that it is assumed that it is the rest of a larger stone.

The peasant stone is located under a linden tree, which is not a court linden tree here , but rather a peace linden tree from 1866, as a plaque on this tree explains. Another fragment of the stone was destroyed before 1900. It was located north of the church and was inscribed This is a peasant stone .
