Construction logistics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The construction logistics deals with the special organization of construction sites . It is the subject of engineering .

Subject of construction logistics

Construction logistics as a branch of logistics combines the operational areas of coordinating trades as well as storage and transport. On the one hand, it includes the supply of the project with building materials and their scheduling coordination for processing in the building to be constructed of various categories ( building construction , civil engineering , road and bridge construction ). On the other hand, it includes holistic planning (here process planning ), control, implementation, provision, optimization and control of processes, the relocation of goods, people and means of transport and their transfer points themselves. It ensures the quantitative and qualitative success of construction processes and serves to save of time, material and transport costs.

Application examples

In the case of simpler construction projects, all trades, as well as material and warehouse management, are coordinated by the foreman or construction technician with manual aids or with simple IT programs. For more complex construction projects, specialized construction logisticians with civil engineering training take over this work. They are increasingly making use of technical aids such as internet-based appointment and resource planning programs and location devices with GPS . The implementation of a logistics concept comes into consideration, for example in projects in confined areas, e.g. B. for construction projects with a city center location (little storage space for materials and construction site equipment ).

With the help of electronic data processing , it is possible to combine these areas under a common strategy. Internet-supported PCs are used for the rapid distribution of current construction plans and other relevant documents (contracts, selected correspondence, sampling results, meeting minutes, appointments) so that they are available for download to all authorized parties. This is also used by the construction managers of the executing companies of all trades in order to guarantee a continuous, clean interface processing of their own trades in connection with the entire construction project (if the sequence is adhered to). In this way, construction and external construction processes can also be integrated in a joint administration.

The flexibly operated area logistics (as part of the overall logistics of a project) creates time and financial buffers through temporarily held storage facilities. In general, attempts are made to avoid unnecessary transport and storage costs. With good planning, products and built-in parts can be brought directly from production to the processing stations ( just-in-time production ). However, practice has shown that just-in-time production is risky and costly in the event of a malfunction. Area logistics intercepts these risks in order to have to rent as little storage space and material managers as possible.

The warehouse logistics are linked with the scheduling and material purchasing. By distributing this networked information in the project room, all specialist departments and site managers have the same fixed information and starting point.
