The Harz Treetop Path (also: Treetop Path Bad Harzburg ) is a teaching and treetop path in the Harz Mountains in the area of the city of Bad Harzburg in the Goslar district , Lower Saxony .
geography
The treetop path is located south of the Großer Burgberg in the Cold Valley on the area of the Lower Saxony State Forests and directly adjacent to the Harz National Park . The Kalte Tal is traversed by the Radau tributary waters of the Kaltentalbach , which feeds the pig pond and can also be viewed directly from the treetop path . It is located away from the settlement area within the Harz Mountains and can be reached via federal road 4 to the west or the spa gardens.
investment
The treetop path can be reached via an access crown that winds up over a length of about 300 meters. The entire route is barrier-free ; the maximum gradient is 5.8%. The bridges, docked on 18 platforms, lead through the valley at a height of up to 26 meters above the ground. A total of 50 "adventure stations" provide information about the history of the region, the timber industry and nature.
history
The facility is the first treetop path in Lower Saxony and the Harz Mountains. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 23, 2014. The general contractor for the construction project was Biedenkapp Stahlbau GmbH , the construction costs amounted to around 4.6 million euros and the construction project was carried out from November 2014 to March 2015. The treetop path was put into operation on May 8, 2015.
On October 9 , 2019 , the treetop walk welcomed its one millionth visitor.
Extensions
Tree suspension railway
The first extension was a tree suspension railway east of the treetop path. It leads from the 483 meter high Burgberg over a distance of around 1,000 meters into the Cold Valley. Hanging on a belt, it goes at a maximum of 15 kilometers per hour to the end of the treetop path. The necessary decision of the Council of the City of Bad Harzburg was made on June 20, 2017 and the announcement on July 18, 2017. Construction officially began with the establishment of Baumschwebebahn Bad Harzburg GmbH on May 28, 2019 and in July 2020 the 2nd , 5 million euro project completed. The BaumSchwebeBahn HARZ opened on August 1st, 2020.
criticism
Criticism of this project is mainly expressed by environmental groups. Friedhart Knolle , geologist and active member of various associations dedicated to the Harz, spoke in the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung of a "messing up" of the landscape protection area, which, in contrast to the treetop path, does not make a constructive contribution to environmental education and is therefore unsustainable.
Top lights
The treetop path was integrated into the concept of the salt and light festival , with the top lighting being carried out every year on the last weekend in August : The facility is decorated with a light installation on the crown, which is accompanied by a beach club with a cocktail bar and tightrope walkers.
