Nybø building stone

The Nybø building stone is on Sognefjordvegen, east of Leikanger on the Sognefjord near Sogndal in Fylke Vestland in Norway .

The massive building stone ( menhir ) stands near the coast, below the parking lot of a school. It is about 5.0 meters high, 80 cm wide and 40 to 50 cm thick and made of gray granite .

The stone has been removed from its original place twice. Several Iron Age tombs have been discovered around the stone .

The stone was painted in 1824 by the artist Johan Christian Clausen Dahl (1788–1857).

Nearby are the Balderstein and the Hamre building stone .
