Gustav Christian von Handtwig
Gustav Christian von Handtwig (* 1712 on the island of Dagö ; † January 31, 1767 in Riga ) was a German-Baltic physician , professor , Mecklenburg court advisor and thought leader in forensic medicine .
Life
Gustav Christian von Handtwig studied medicine at the University of Rostock from 1735 to 1738 . It was in 1738 at the University of Rostock MD PhD , and was then to 1760 there is also professor of medicine. During this time he was appointed the ducal-Mecklenburg court counselor and from 1750 was a district physician in Rostock. In Rostock, the first forensic medicine lectures by Georg Detharding (1671–1741) and Gustav Christian von Handtwig were expelled in 1750. In 1765 Handtwig moved to Riga and became the second city physician there .
He was an active member of the Freemasons in Rostock and Riga. As a councilor he received from the Prussian grand lodge a constitutional document for the foundation of a lodge in Rostock. On June 10, 1760 he founded the St. John's Lodge "To the Three Stars". He ran the first hammer until 1764. In Riga he was co-founder and master of the chair of the lodge “Zum Schwert”.
Origin and family
Handtwig came from the German-Baltic noble family von Handtwig . Gustav Christian was raised to imperial nobility in 1740 together with his brothers . His father was the provost Georg Handtwig (1676–1733), who was resident in the Reval district with his wife Anna Magarethe, a born von Nieroth . Gustav Christian married Anna Sophie Eggerdes († 1743) in 1738 and Dorothea Louise von Vietinghoff in 1746 ; he had no offspring.
