Nedi Rivera

Bavi Edna "Nedi" Rivera (born March 24, 1946 in Visalia , California ) is an American Anglican bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America .

Life

Rivera came from a Puerto Rican family. Her father was the Anglican Bishop Victor Rivera . She studied Anglican theology at Wheaton College in Massachusetts and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley , California. She was ordained a deaconess in June 1974 and an Anglican priestess in 1975. From 1994 to 2004 she was the principal of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in San Francisco . She was ordained bishop on January 22, 2005 by Harry Brown Bainbridge and Vincent Waydell Warner , William Edwin Swing , C. Shannon Mallory, and Catherine S. Roskam , and she was suffragan bishop of Oregon. In May 2009, Rivera was elected bishop of the Eastern Oregon diocese .
