Bawku is a city in the Upper East Region in the West African state of Ghana . It is the capital of the Bawku Municipal District . It lies at an altitude of 252 m above sea level. d. M. in the extreme northeast of Ghana, only about 10 km from the borders with Burkina Faso and Togo .

At the last Ghanaian census in 2010, the city was home to 60,755 people. This makes Bawku the 22nd largest city in Ghana.

The Presbyterian- run hospital in Bawku was built in 1953; it has 256 beds and, due to its location near the border with Burkina Faso and Togo, also serves as an important health center for neighboring countries.
