The island of Sprogø as a stopover for the Storebælt Bridge |
The island of Sprogø is located in Storebælt (German: Great Belt ) between the Danish islands of Fyn (German: Fyn ) and Sjælland (German: Zealand ). The Storebælt Bridge, which connects Funen and Zealand, uses this island as a stopover. The approximately 154 hectare island was only a quarter as big (39 hectares) before the construction of the bridge and only a lighthouse and a few houses were built on it. The island has been uninhabited since the early 1990s.
In the People's Navy of the GDR, the island was unofficially referred to as "Egon Olsen Island". It was so named because the Danish actor Ove Sprogøe, popular in the GDR, played the role of Egon Olsen in the popular Danish film series " The Olsen Gang ".
Community membership
The island belongs to the parish community ( Danish : Sogn ) Sankt Povls Sogn , which until 1970 belonged to Harde Slagelse Herred in Sorø Amt , since 1970 to Slagelse Kommune in what was then Vestsjællands Amt , which became part of the “new” with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 “ Slagelse municipality in the Sjælland region has risen.
Keller institution
From 1922 to 1961 there was an institution on the island for so-called “unadjusted girls”. The events there are a central theme in the detective novel Contempt by Jussi Adler-Olsen .
