The Bawku Municipal District in northeast Ghana is part of the Upper East Region . The district shares a border with the neighboring countries of Burkina Faso and Togo .

Kusasi , Mamprusi , Bissas and Mossi are the most important ethnic groups represented here, with the Kusasi making up the majority of the population and the Mamprusi forming the next largest group. There are also migrants from Burkina Faso and the south of Ghana. Most of the immigrants from the south work in the public sector. There have been several arguments between Kusasi and Mamprusi in recent years.
About half of the population is younger than 19 years.
Economy and Infrastructure
The district is dominated by agriculture. In addition to the self-sufficiency of the population, tomatoes , soybeans and onions are grown.
There is a hospital in Bawku , the Bawku Municipal Hospital .
