The Builsa North Municipal District is a district in the Upper East Region in central northern Ghana . In 2000 it had about 75,376 inhabitants and an area of 1,946 km².

The Builsa North Municipal District includes the following villages with their own chief (“chief”): Sandema , Bachonsa, Chuchuliga, Doninga, Fumbisi, Gbedema, Gbedembilisi, Kadema, Kanjaga, Siniensi, Uwasi, Wiaga and Wiesi. The largest town, the most important market center and the district capital is Sandema with numerous schools (including two senior secondary schools) and several Christian churches and mosques. It is the seat of the district administration under a District Chief Executive (since 2006: Thomas Kofi Alonsi).

The Paramount Chief ("King" or "High Chief"), whose office was held by the 106-year-old Sir Ayieta Azantilow until his death on November 14, 2006, presents the ethnic group at traditional appearances and speaks right in less serious cases such as marriage matters .

The economic structure of the district is dominated by an agrarian subsistence economy . There is hardly any industry and the district has not yet been developed for tourism. A major problem is the emigration of young people to the big cities of southern Afghanistan.

The whole area of the district is almost entirely from the Builsa (Bulsa) inhabited, apart from a few Islamic Kantussi (especially in Sandema) and very few Fulani -Hirten (Engl. Fulani, French. Peul). Some villages with a predominantly Bulsa population, such as Kategra, Kunkwa, Jadema and Biuk, are outside the district. Since Ghana's independence (1957) there have been no ethnic conflicts in Builsa Northern District.
