Bazaar

The bazaar is a row of shops in the center of the Bavarian capital, Munich .

history

The building was built from 1824 to 1826 according to plans by the architect Leo von Klenze on the east side of Odeonsplatz . It replaced the old riding school at the Hofgarten . The construction was financed by the banker Simon Freiherr von Eichthal .

Klenze created a 175-meter-long, two-storey, symmetrical building in the classical style, which is divided by a central pavilion and ends with a corner pavilion to the north and south. On the side facing the Hofgarten, the existing arcades were integrated into the building. Klenze also picked up the arched motif on the facade facing Odeonsplatz.

Between 1854 and 1856 the two corner pavilions were raised by one storey under the supervision of Eduard Riedel . The building was rebuilt by 1956 after being severely damaged by the air raids in World War II.

The film casino had been in the complex since 1951 . The cinema building is the work of the architect Paul Stohrer . In June 2011, the renowned art cinema had to cease operations.

Café Tambosi, which is also located here, is Munich's oldest café. It opened in 1775 as a kiosk for serving coffee, chocolate and lemonade. Luigi Tambosi, son of the court cellar master at the court of the Wittelsbach family, took over the house in 1810, since then it has been called "Tambosi".
