BeJazz

BeJazz is an association with several hundred members that organizes jazz concerts in Bern .

The association was founded in 1982 with the name IGIM (Interest Group for Improvised Music Bern) and initially served as a self-help organization for musicians. The IGIM was a founding member of the club culture halls Dampfzentrale .

In 1991 the IGIM changed its name to its current name and began to professionalize itself as an organizer. In 1998 the position of a program manager and an event concept were created. With around 80 events per year, the association has become an integral part of the German-speaking Swiss jazz scene.

Since 2002, the association each leads the four-day in January BeJazzWinterFestival and since 2003 the vain-and-out festival BeJazzSommer by.

From 2004 to summer 2007, the association did not host its events in the Dampfzentrale cultural halls , but mainly in the following locations: Mahogany Hall , Katakömbli basement theater and UPtown Gurten .

Also in 2004, the association began a collaboration with the Zurich organizer All Blues for the concerts of the Jazz Classics Bern event series , at which well-known musicians perform.

In autumn 2007 the association opened its own venue: the club in the Vidmarhallen in Bern- Liebefeld .
