Bear City Roller Derby ( BCRD for short ) is a roller derby club from Berlin , which was founded in 2008 and currently has the highest ranking German roller derby team. The home games are usually played in the hall of the Arena Berlin .

history

The club was founded in 2008 by some athletes under the name Berlin Bombshells and organizationally joined the Sport-Club Lurich 02 eV. In 2009 the first game in Germany followed against the Stuttgart Valley Rollergirlz . In December 2010, the Berlin Bombshells finished second behind Stuttgart Valley at the first German championship in Berlin (see article Roller Derby, section history). In June 2013, the Berlin Bombshells finally won the second German championship in Stuttgart. Bear City Roller Derby is currently taking part in the German Roller Derby Bundesliga, which was held for the first time in 2015.

Internationally, Bear City Roller Derby plays against the best teams in the world, including London, Paris, Edinburgh, Stockholm, Washington and Philadelphia. In November 2012 the club hosted the first WFTDA tournament in Europe , finishing second behind the London Roller Girls . October / November 2014 Bear City Roller Derby was the first European team to win a medal at the global championship of roller derby clubs in Nashville : The team finished third in Division 2. The higher-ranked London Roller Girls played in Division 1, without winning a medal.

In the WFTDA ranking, Bear City Roller Derby is the highest rated German team and 13th in the European ranking.

Teams

The club has three teams that are deployed at different levels:

  • A-Team: Bundesliga and strongest opponents worldwide, includes the 20 strongest players in the club.
  • B-Team: against medium-strength European teams, comprises the next 20 players according to their level of play.
  • C-Team: More games across Germany, again 20 players.
