Beata Hlavenková (born February 2, 1978 in Vendryně as Beata Morávková ) is a Czech jazz pianist , arranger and composer.

Live and act

Hlavenková studied classical music at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava until 1998 before going to the USA for a master's degree (composition, jazz composition and arrangement), which she graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2004 . Then she was a member of the group S'aight , in which she, along with the guitarist and composer Patrik Hlavenka (whom she married), played her own music and in 2004 released the CD of the same name. She leads her own jazz trio with bassist Rastislav Uhrík or Petr Dvorský and drummer Pavel Bady Zboril, and has also worked in other groups, such as the singer Lenka Dusilová , and the new trio project Face of the Bass by bassist Jaromír Honzák and with Ingrid Jensen , who can also be heard on her album Joy For Joel (Animal Music, 2009). Her musical activities go far beyond the field of jazz and beyond; So she played with the folk rock group Margorie Band by Katka Šarközi (album 2003) and toured with the country singer Vera Martinová, with whom she also recorded two albums. She has toured Europe, North America and Turkey.

Hlavenková also composed for symphony orchestra ( Three Times About the Same Thing , 1998) and arranged for Abby Riccards, The Clarinet Factory and for Iva Bittová . Since 2005 she has been a composition teacher at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague and has been working at The New York University in Prague since 2006 .

Prizes and awards

In summer 2005, Hlavenková was part of S'aight and Vertigo Connection , which was awarded at the Montreux Jazz Festival . In the same year she and her trio received the Czech Jazz Young Talent Award as Group of the Year for composition and arrangement. In 2006 she won a composition competition on Czech radio with her composition Jazvecík vo hmle za stlpom .
