Beate Pfannemüller

Beate Pfannemüller (born September 6, 1920 in Wiesbaden as Beate Beut guide; †  October 18, 2008 in Freiburg i. Br. ) Was a German chemist who stood out for her work in the field of starch chemistry . She was married to the German doctor and tropical medicine specialist Ludwig Pfannemüller .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1939 and completing the Reich Labor Service , she received one of the few scholarships to study abroad in the USA, but was unable to attend because the war began. Instead, she began to study chemistry at the University of Berlin and completed her studies in 1944 with a diploma thesis under Alfred Zetzsche on carbodiimides . In 1946 she began her doctoral thesis on the sulfation of xylans with Elfriede Husemann at the Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry in Freiburg . She then did research and taught at the institute and led a large working group until she retired in 1985. She has been recognized internationally for her polysaccharide research and has published a large number of technical papers.

Awards

  • In 1988 she was awarded the Saare Medal for exceptional achievements and merits in the field of starch.
