Beatlemania was a German-language magazine that appeared from 1982 to 2010. Gathered information (reports, research, news, reviews, interviews, etc.) about the British band The Beatles , its individual members - Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr , George Harrison and John Lennon  - and everything related to the group formed the content . The editors Hartmut and Evelyn Schwarz operated the magazine as a part-time hobby.

history

The magazine was first in the form of an information sheet in the summer of 1982 in Berga / Elster in the GDR - district Gera ( Thuringia ).

There was a lack of information about the Beatles in the publicly accessible media of the GDR . Therefore, there was a lively exchange of information in private fan circles. Beatles fan Hartmut Schwarz concentrated this accumulated knowledge in his spare time in 1982 in a newsletter that was sent to interested parties.

The first issues under the heading “Beatlemania” were information letters - self-written on a typewriter - initially only one or two A4 sheets of paper, which were sent out irregularly. Later there was a change to the DIN A5 booklet form, at that time these editions were illegally reproduced in state- owned companies using thermal copying processes and then distributed. At the same time, Beatles fan and swap partner Evelyn Rabe (later: Schwarz) began to participate. In 1984 the booklets continued to appear illegally as Xerox copies, as the government did not obtain permission to print. Two years later the editors relocated to Erfurt in Thuringia .

It was not until the wall came down that the magazine was given official permission to print. Issue BM # 36 then already appeared in offset printing , later issues appeared in digital printing . From 1990 to 2006, six issues per year were published by BM Publications, a publisher founded for this purpose. In 2007/2008 the issue was published four times a year and in 2009/2010 only one issue appeared per year.

The magazine was discontinued in print form in September 2010 with the BM # 145. The magazine still exists online at Beatlemania.de .
