Beaufortia k Weichowensis is a freshwater ornamental fish from the family of the fin suckers (Gastromyzontidae). This loach species can grow up to 8 centimeters.
features
The pectoral and pelvic fins are transformed into four symmetrically arranged suction fins, with which Beaufortia koftowensis can lay close to the surface of the water, stones or plants and thus cause extremely low resistance in the water. Body and fins are dotted golden yellow to yellow brown and dark brown, the fin ends often have a dark band. Due to their physique, the loach usually stays on the ground, with its mouth and gills on the flat stomach side. The males are difficult to distinguish from the females by a slightly stronger color.
distribution and habitat
Beaufortia k Weichowensis is native to the west river ( China ) of subtropical Asia . This body of water has a strong current, a high oxygen content and the following water values:
- a pH of 6.5 to 8
- a GH value of 2 to 12 ° d
- a KH value of about 2 °
- and a temperature of 18 to 24 ° C.
Way of life
Beaufortia k Weichowensis is omnivorous and feeds on growth, i.e. on algae and the small animals that live on them. Little is known about the exact reproductive behavior so far, in aquariums only accidental breeds have been successful. This loach species is peaceful and calm in behavior.
Aquaristics
When keeping them in aquariums, care should be taken that the properties of the waters of origin are precisely reproduced. The animals can be fed with food flakes, tablets, floating shrimp , mosquito larvae and boiled vegetables. They should be kept in pairs and can be socialized with smaller coarse fish .
