Beaumaris is a suburb of Melbourne . It is located about 20 km southeast of the city center and is right on Port Phillip . The district is named after the town of the same name in Wales (see Beaumaris (Wales) ). In 2016 the district had over 13,000 inhabitants.

The first post office opened in the area in March 1868, but closed a month later and did not reopen until 1925. From 1889 to 1914, a horse-drawn tram ran between Beaumaris and Melbourne.
