Beaver Island ( English for Beaver Island , Spanish : Isla San Rafael ) is one of the Falkland Islands and is located west of Weddell Island and south of New Island .
History and inhabitants
Beaver Settlement is located on Fish Creek in the southeast of the island and has a private airstrip. Beaver Island was named after the whaling ship "Beaver", which is said to be the first whaler to sail around Cape Horn . In October 2006, the wreck of a missing French yacht was discovered near the island .
fauna
Gentoo penguins , Argentine fighting foxes (introduced, not to be confused with the Falkland fox), peregrine falcons , crested caracara , falconry caracara , guanacos , ear seals and sea birds live on the island . Seaweed forests can be found off the coast .
