The Beaver Lake State Park is a State Park in Logan County in the US state of North Dakota . The 118 hectare park is located on the west bank of Beaver Lake (beaver lake) in the Rolling Prairie (about: "gently rolling grassland"), about 27 kilometers southeast of Napoleon . Beaver Lake, fed by Beaver Creek , received its present size of 397 hectares through damming in 1933. The lake is 1.7 m deep and has a maximum depth of 2.1 m and a shoreline of 13 km.

history

The park was founded on the initiative of settlers from Logan, McIntosh and Emmons Counties who decided to create a state park on July 14, 1929. The grounds for the park were acquired in August 1930 and the park opened in July 1932, but the expansion of the park was slow due to the Great Depression and the devastating drought of the 1930s. From 1935 to 1936, a Works Progress Administration team laid out streets, built a boat dock, and built the picnic area. A memorial stone in the park commemorates this work. In the early years, the park hosted horse races and served as a fishing spot for the region's settlers.

Flora and fauna

The wooded lakeshore consists of ash maple , Virginian bird cherry , hawthorn and rock pear . The park is a bird watching area, common birds include grebes , pelicans , cormorants , whistling swans , herons , hawks , bitterns , sandpipers and warblers . In spring and autumn the park is a resting place for migratory birds.

Tourist facilities

The park is open all year round and there is a fee to visit. The park has a campsite, picnic area and offers water sports such as fishing, canoeing and water skiing from mid-May to late September. More than eight kilometers of walking paths lead through the park.
