Bebbelsdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bebbelsdorf is a former pond in Witten . Developed around a pond , there were several farms in Bebbelsdorf up until the 19th century, which gradually gave way to industrial operations. Today there are numerous medium-sized companies in the area.

history

During the construction of the A44 , outlines of buildings from the Bronze and Iron Ages were uncovered at the level of Bebbelsdorf . This makes the Bebbelsdorf one of the oldest settlement areas in the entire region. In contrast to the neighboring Wullen , whose settlement history can be traced back to the year 1019, little is known about the development and growth of Bebbelsdorf. Linguists suspect that Bebbelsdorf owes its name to the old Saxon first name Babbil. However, this has not been proven.

The exact boundaries of the Bebbelsdorf were established in the original cadastre in 1825 . According to this original cadastre, the Bebbelsdorf was assigned to the municipality of Düren , which in turn was in a network with Stockum . This is how the Stockum train station in Bebbelsdorf was built on the railway line between Langendreer and Löttringhausen in 1877 .

Thanks to the geographically favorable location in the triangle between the prosperous communities of Langendreer, Stockum and the rural community of Annen-Wullen as well as the favorable rail connection to a branch line of the nationally important railway line of the Reinischer Esels , the Bebbelsdorf grew into a location for medium-sized companies. The Bebbelsdorf has retained this character to this day.

With the municipal reform of 1929, the Bebbelsdorf became part of Witten. According to the map of the "statistical districts" of Witten, the area of the former pond is now largely part of the Annen district of Wullen, although the area of the former pond extends in the north to the Witten district of Düren .

Oddities

In regional parlance, “von” Bebbelsdorf or “the” Bebbelsdorf is actually spoken, while the resident companies are located “in” Bebbelsdorf.
