Heinrich Schoppmeyer (historian)

Heinrich Schoppmeyer (born June 29, 1935 in Witten ) is a German regional historian with a focus on Westphalian regional history , city history in the Middle Ages and early modern times.

Life

Heinrich Schoppmeyer studied history, German and philosophy at the University of Münster; he received his doctorate in 1966 on the Archdiocese of Paderborn . Schoppmeyer was first in the school service, then from 1969 as a teacher at the Ruhr University Bochum . There he was appointed honorary professor for the history of the Middle Ages and Westphalian regional history in 1981 ; In 1992/93 he held a teaching position at the University of Rostock . He taught at the University of Bochum until his retirement in 2004.

He lives in Witten , is honorary chairman of the association for local and regional studies in the Grafschaft Mark and a full member of the historical commission for Westphalia . On his 75th birthday, the Festschrift Aspects of State History appeared . In 2012 the current standard work on local history appeared in Witten. History of the village, town and suburbs .

He is a member of the Witten Rowing Club .
