Beda Maria Sonnenberg

Beda Maria Sonnenberg OSB (* An October 1966 in Erlangen as Peter Sonnenberg ) is a German Benedictine abbot .

Vita

Peter Sonnenberg grew up in Neunkirchen am Brand and attended elementary and secondary school there. Then he went to the secondary school in Graefenberg and the technical college in Erlangen. Then he learned the trade of machinist .

On July 5, 1987 he entered the novitiate of the Plankstetten monastery and received the religious name of St. Beda Venerabilis . On October 1, he made the temporary and three years later the perpetual vows before Abbot Dominikus Madlener . He then studied religious education and theology in Eichstätt and Munich . Archabbot-Bishop Imre Asztrik Várszegi from the Territorial Abbey of Pannonhalma consecrated him as a priest on May 4, 1996 in Plankstetten Abbey Church. Librarian and archivist at the abbey since 2000, he completed his doctorate in the history of theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in February 2006 . He then became a zelator and in September 2006 novice master .

On February 23, 2007, as his predecessor Gregor Maria Hanke had been appointed Bishop of Eichstätt, he was elected by the convent as the prior administrator of the abbey. After his three-year term of office, the monks' convention elected him on March 12, 2010 as Abbot of Plankstetten.
