The spiny raspy-winged beetle ( Platystethus arenarius ) is a beetle from the family of the rhinoceros (Staphylinidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 2.8 to 5 millimeters and have a black colored body. The neck plate has a deep groove, the Suturalwinkel the deck wing is rounded. Occasionally the wing covers are colored brown-yellow.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in the entire Palearctic , including in the far north. You can find the species from the flatlands to altitudes of over 2000 meters. The animals colonize fresh cattle and sheep dung, decaying plant parts and also mud on the banks of water. They are very common everywhere and often swarm as adults .
