Bee Cave is a place in Travis County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .
geography
The place is on US Hwy 71 and 620, at the confluence of Barton Creek and Little Barton Creek , in central southwest Texas, 20 km west of Austin , the state capital, and has a total area of 6.7 km 2 , excluding notable water surface.
history
Bee Cave as we know it today has only existed since 1987, but the idea of a city without the influences of a big city existed 140 years before.
Dietrich Bohls moved here with his family a few years before 1850 when the city of Austin with its 900 inhabitants at the time had become too big for him. Around 1870 a Carl Beck also reached this area and opened a general store at the intersection of what is now Highway 71 and Hamilton Pool Road. In 1873 Beck also became a postmaster and opened a post office in his shop. When looking for a name for the post office, he remembered the many bees and beehives along the banks of the two creeks and called them Bee Cave .
For the next 100 years or so, people lived here quietly and in isolation. This didn't change until the 1980s , when Austin grew bigger and started incorporating. In the course of this, the place got the official status of Village of Bee Cave .
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 656 people in 207 households and 172 families lived here. The population density was 97.4 people per km 2 . The racial the population is composed of 94.21% White, 0.00% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 3.51% other ethnic groups. About 1.98% are of two or more races, and 7.62% of the population are Spanish or Latin American.
Of the 207 households, 50.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 79.7% of these were married couples living together. 2.4% were single mothers and 16.9% were non-families. 9.7% of all households were single households and there were people living in 2.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.17 and the average family size was 3.38 people.
33.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 3.8% 18 to 24, 34.8% 25 to 44, 23.2% 45 to 64, and 5.2% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 108.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 104.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 120,871 USD , and the median income for a family 130,028 USD. Males had a median income of $ 100,000 versus women of $ 48,125. The per capita income was $ 45,405. 0.5% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 0.0% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 0.0% were 65 or older.
