Bees Make Honey were a British pub rock band that were popular in London in the first half of the 1970s .

history

The Englishman Barry Richardson (bass) came to London in the late 1960s. He had previously played in the bands "The Alpine Seven" and "Bluesville" in Ireland , where he had studied. In London he played jazz in the "Brian Lemon Trio" and country rock in the band "Jan & the Southerners". With his former Irish musician colleagues Ruan O'Lochlainn (saxophone), Deke O'Brien (guitar, vocals) and Mick Molloy (guitar) as well as the American Bob "Cee" Siebenberg (drums; later with Supertramp ) he founded one in 1971 unnamed band that performed at the Tally Ho Pub, as well as Eggs over Easy . From January 1972 they called themselves "Bees Make Honey".

Their manager was Dave Robinson, who also had Brinsley Schwarz under contract. Robinson got them gigs in other pubs. They released a single, Knee Trembler / Caldonia , and an album, Music Every Night, on EMI in 1973 . After that there were several changes of line-up. A second album was recorded but not released by EMI. Another attempt to bring out an album on DJM Records failed. In 1974 the band broke up.

Later there was a reunion of Bees Make Honey. Four tracks, recorded live in December 1976, were released as an EP in 1977 . Recordings of the band later appeared on various compilations .
