Eggs over easy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eggs over Easy were an American country rock band that played a key role in the creation of pub rock in London in the early 1970s .

Band history

The two New Yorkers Jack O'Hara (guitar, bass, vocals) and Austin de Lone (keyboards, guitar, vocals) met in Berkeley , California , where they performed as a duo. Back in New York they were joined by Brien Hopkins (keyboards, bass, guitar, vocals). Her manager Peter Kauff managed to win Chas Chandler (formerly with Animals and manager of the Jimi Hendrix Experience ) as a producer for an album.

The Eggs traveled to London in December 1970 to make the recordings. Les Sampson first helped out as a drummer before John Steel (ex-Animals) joined the band. In January 1971, the recordings for the album were completed, but it was not released due to difficulties with their record company. Kauff advised the band to stay in London until the problems were resolved.

Chandler gave the band performances in England . From May 1971 they appeared regularly in the Tally Ho Pub in north London, although previously only jazz had been played there. Eggs fans also included musicians such as Graham Parker , Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello who helped spread the pub rock movement. When performing in the Marquee Club , a close partnership with the band Brinsley Schwarz developed .

Eggs over Easy performed in a number of London pubs. In September and October 1971, she went as the opening act with John Mayall on tour in the UK , now with George Butler on drums. However, hopes of their recordings being published were dashed, and when their visas expired, they had to return to America in late 1971.

In New York they signed a contract with A&M Records . Link Wray produced the album Good 'N' Cheap , partly a remake of the London recordings, which was released in 1972. Bill Franz was now on drums. In 1973 the Eggs moved to San Francisco and toured with the Eagles and Yes . John "Jay" David (formerly on Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show ) replaced Franz on drums, and the single Back of My Car was released by Buffalo Records.

The second album Fear of Frying was released in 1981 on Squish Records. In the same year, Eggs over Easy broke up. Hopkins remained active as a songwriter , O'Hara became a sound engineer , and de Lone played as a studio musician with artists such as Bonnie Raitt , Nick Lowe , Elvis Costello and others.
