Behemoth (Hebrew = " giant animal ") in Canada's Wonderland is a steel roller coaster of the Hyper Coaster model by the manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard , which opened on May 4th, 2008. Until the opening of Leviathan in the same park in May 2012, it was Canada's highest roller coaster at 70 m and fastest roller coaster at 124 km / h.

The chain lift hill crosses the Backlot Stunt Coaster . At the foot of the steepest first drop of a B&M Hyper Coaster , with a 75 ° gradient, the trains reach their maximum speed. This is followed by the first hill, which is followed by the U-turn, consisting of an elevated 180 ° curve. This is followed by three very similar hills whose driveways are each provided with reducing brakes that reduce the speed if necessary. A subsequent driveway leads to the train's block brake , which is followed by a 540 ° downward helix. At ground level there is a turn from right to left curve in a 270 ° upward helix. After another small hill, the train is then braked by eddy current brakes on a slightly sloping straight stretch before it makes a 180 ° curve above the queue and arrives back at the station.

Trains

Behemoth has three trains with eight cars each. Four people (two rows of two people) can be seated in each car. The passengers must be at least 1.20 m tall to be allowed to ride. Thanks to the block system, all three trains can be operated at the same time and thus ensure a maximum capacity of around 1,500 people per hour.

Unlike the previous model roller coasters from hypercoaster the manufacturer, the four seats are not side by side of a car in a row, but rather in the form of an upside-down V . The two middle seats are right next to each other and the other two seats are arranged at a slight angle behind them. The new seating arrangement is intended to provide a better view of the passengers, but it will make the train longer than the older systems of this type. A clear disadvantage of these longer trains, however, is that the trains lose speed much faster because the acceleration phase when crossing an airtime hill does not start until later, namely when the center of gravity of the train has passed the highest point.
