description
Hyper Coaster were originally built for speed and airtime to counter the trend of ever larger looping roller coasters. To reach these elements, Hyper Coaster often have a first large drop, many subsequently smaller airtime hills and a large helix as a turn. Many such roller coasters are designed with an "out-and-back" layout.
Hyper Coaster were first manufactured by Arrow Dynamics in the late 1980s to early 1990s. Since then a number of companies including Bolliger & Mabillard , Intamin , Chance-Morgan, Giovanola and others have designed and built Hyper Coaster.
The only hyper coaster made of wood was Son of Beast on Kings Island . Son of Beast was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world. The last ride on the wooden roller coaster took place in 2009. In 2012 it was completely dismantled.
