Theming Kärnan (tower in Helsingborg)

The Kärnan's oath in Hansa-Park ( Sierksdorf / Schleswig-Holstein ) is a steel roller coaster model Infinity Coaster from the manufacturer Gerstlauer Amusement Rides , which was opened on July 1st, 2015. The 1,235 m long roller coaster, which has a rail height of 73 m, a descent of 67 m and a speed of up to 127 km / h, is advertised as a Hyper Coaster . Together with the Silver Star in Europa-Park, it is the highest roller coaster in Germany and, behind the Red Force , Hyperion and Shambhala, the fourth highest roller coaster in Europe.

Roller coaster and queue

Roller coaster

The roller coaster has two areas, a dark ride section and one outdoors. The Kärnan's oath has some special segments, such as the world's first vertical lift hill with backward free fall from a height of over 60 meters, the speed of which was increased from 5 m / s to 11 m / s in 2017. In addition, the roller coaster has an element that should resemble a heart and was developed for the park by the Gerstlauer company. A vertical descent and a heartline roll give the roller coaster a suitable layout, which is also kept close to the ground for large parts of the route.

Roller coaster trains

The Kärnan's oath has 3 trains, in each of which there are 4 rows of four seats. These are transported with a chain lift to 73 m and braked by magnets. What is special about this attraction is the choice of the row of seats, which is taken over by a random generator.

Theming

waiting room

During the 2015/2016 winter break and the 2016 season, the interior of the queue and the exterior of the castle were discussed. The queue gives the impression of a museum. For example, "exhibited" armor and shields, as well as a throne room, in which the first indications of the ban can be found. Outside, the park shows a specially filmed, seven-part documentary that gets to the bottom of the origins of the ban in the real Kärnan in Helsingborg. Researchers can also find out more about the excavations via screens inside. The theming was only completed in 2017.

Atelier of the builder

In this room, visitors are divided into groups of a maximum of 16 people. The master builder's studio has a wall of books behind which the luggage racks are located. In addition, a video is played in this room which shows the discovery of the studio and prompts visitors to put down all loose objects.

Ban room

Then they are brought into a darkened, 12-cornered room and are independently distributed in groups of four on four rows. Now a random generator determines which of the groups of four will be seated in which row of seats in the roller coaster car. This is done by first lighting up one of the four rows and then opening one of four doors. A free choice of the seat row is therefore not possible. The passenger can only decide with whom he would like to take a seat in a row of four.

Roller coaster

The railway is mostly not a theme in the Dark Ride part, only the station has some elements. Another theming element was added for the 2019 season: During the vertical ascent on the lift hill, the passenger now, lying on their back, looks at a screen attached to the tower ceiling, on which the ghost of King Erik Menved appears to them. He reports that he has been tied to the tower for all eternity, whereupon the backward free fall begins. After this, the voice of the builder who wants to help the guests out of the tower and lights up a blue light can be heard. However, this video projection was shortened significantly during the season and the previous background music was brought back instead of the builder's voice, as there were numerous complaints from visitors.

Merchandising

Exit shop

As is typical for Hansa-Park, there is a sales room at the end of the attraction with printed T-shirts, snacks and other items. A photo of the ride can also be purchased there.

Main shop

Many of the items available in the exit shop are also available in the main store directly across from the giant beach chair at the entrance.

Thematic context

The empires of the north

In the summer of 2017, the park changed its theme worlds and so the former Mexican theme area became the "realms of the north".

A statue of King Erik VI, the builder of the Kärnan, was erected next to the roller coaster and unveiled to visitors in 2017 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Hansa Park. A soundtrack to the Kärnan's oath will be played on the associated square.

Kärnapultten

The story about Kärnan is complemented by the novelty 2017 "Kärnapulten", a Gerstlauer Sky Fly , which is located in the immediate vicinity of Kärnan. This attraction was already recognizable in the 2016 season by the progressive theming of the Kärnan, as a parchment in the master builder's studio shows this attraction.

Time of the shadow beings

Every year between September and October, the time of the shadow beings takes place on selected weekends. "Der Kerker des Kärnan" has existed since 2018, which thematically refers to the story already told by Kärnan and, through a wall-mapping show, also makes a thematic link with the curse of Novgorod and the previous times of the shadowy beings. The dungeon is a tour in which disguised actors show the horrors of the dungeon and the visitor himself is viewed as a prisoner. The dungeon of the Kärnan is one of currently three horror attractions in the park and is only used for this event. The age limit for all three attractions is 12 years.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack for the track was produced by IMAscore and is sold on CD in the park. On January 2, 2020, the park published an excerpt from this album on its YouTube channel .

Awards

The Kärnan's oath was awarded the “ FKF Award 2015”.

criticism

The park was able to attract many visitors to the park with this attraction.

Many praised the attraction for the backward freefall and described it as a suitable addition to the park.

Some visitors criticize the long waiting time, which can be attributed to the low capacity due to the backward fall. The driving experience is also criticized in some cases, because the track has increased significantly in strokes over the years.
