description

The beetles are 14 to 20 millimeters long. The eyes are outlined to deflect the antennae. The pronotum is bell-shaped and clearly constricted at the front edge. The elytra are almost evenly dotted and have a yellowish, only slightly protruding, short and loose hair. Your drawing does not allow any confusion. They are intensely red in color and have a heart-shaped or triangular black spot in the middle, the rear tip of which ends in a black seam as far as the end of the wing covers. The wing cover tips and the body as well as the triangular label between the wing covers are black.

Occurrence

The beetles are widespread in the Mediterranean area to the southern Alps . There are numerous older finds from southern Germany, but there are no more recent finds.

Way of life

The larvae develop in rotten hardwood . The finished beetles are mostly found on flowers, mainly umbelliferous plants .
