Baihan al-Kisab ( Arabic بيحان القصاب, DMG Baiḥān al-Qiṣāb , also: Bayḥān al Qasāb , Bayḥān (al-Qiṣāb) or Beihan ) is a city in west-central Yemen . It lies in the eastern foothills of the eastern foothills . The Ramlat es-Sayhad connects to the east . According to the census, the place had 13,224 inhabitants in 2004.

During the time of the Emirates Baihan , Baihan al-Kisab was its capital and is now the administrative capital of the Shabwa Governorate . The city is located in a valley between al-Baida ' in the south and south of the connection between Ma'rib in the north-west and ʿAtaq in the south-east. The valley is fertile, as waterfalls from the southern (western) mountains bring in the necessary moisture. Dates, grains and citrus fruits give life-giving hold.

history

The name Bayḥān is attested in inscriptions from Qataban . There it only appears as a clan and temple name. The Bayḥān temple was built by Shahr Ġaylān bin ʿAbšibām after a victory over Hadramaut and ʿAmir. However, it is scientifically uncertain whether the temple was actually located in the area of today's city of Baihan al-Kisab; Evidence suggests that an inscription (cited as RES 4932) was found built into the city. In addition, a Qataban castle Raydān (not to be confused with the royal castle Raydan of the Himyarian city of Zafar ) is mentioned in a bustrophedone inscription (cited as RES 3871), the ruins of which can be seen on the top of a mountain at the gate of Wadi Baihan , high above Baihan are. More is not known in the context of the old South Arabian context.

The valley around the city of Baihan al-Kisab was under different dominions. It was originally settled by the Al-Habieli family , descendants of the Prophet Mohammed , who arrived here in the late 16th century. From this the tribe of the Musabein and the tribe of the Alfatima were derived in the north of the region . Tribal feuds were the order of the day. The south was ruled by the Balharite tribe .

Before the Republic of Yemen was established in 1967, Baihan al-Kisab belonged to the Emirate of Beihan and thus from 1959 to the Federation of the Arab Emirates of the South , and from 1962 to the South Arab Federation ; the city was thus a member of the Aden Protectorate Association . With the introduction of Marxist supremacy in the country from 1967 to 1994, all local lords temporarily left the country, primarily for Saudi Arabia .
