Beizhen ( Chinese 北 镇 市 , Pinyin Běizhèn Shì ) is an independent city in the administrative area of the independent city of Jinzhou in the southwest of Liaoning Province in the People's Republic of China . It has an area of 1,782 km² and has 527,000 inhabitants (end of 2010), of which over 62% are of the Manju nationality .
history
Beizhen was founded in 1907 as "Guangning District" ( Chinese 广 宁县 , Pinyin Guǎngníng Xiàn ). Six years later it was renamed "Beizhen". The district of Beizhen was dissolved on June 29, 1989 and re-established as the “Autonomous District of Beizhen of Manju ” ( Chinese 北 镇 满族 自治县 , Pinyin Běizhèn Mǎnzú Zìzhìxiàn ). On March 21, 1995, the Autonomous County of Beizhen was dissolved again and re-established as "City of Beining" ( Chinese 北宁市 , Pinyin Běiníng Shì ). On March 7, 2006, the city of Beining was renamed "City of Beizhen".
