Belinda Bidwell

Belinda Bidwell (born April 22, 1936 , † April 28, 2007 in Fajara / Bakau ) was a Gambian politician and former spokeswoman for the country's national assembly .

Life

Bidwell studied at the University of Oxford and earned a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies . She then went to the University of Chicago and graduated in 1973. After completing her studies, she went back to Gambia and taught at Gambia College , where she taught until her retirement in the early 1990s.

After her retirement, she volunteered as a teacher at St. Joseph's Senior Secondary School and at the Gambia High School in Banjul . From April 2006 to January 2007 she was Speaker of the National Assembly , and since 2002 she was Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly . Her successor was Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay .

Bidwell died at her home in Fajara on the morning of April 28, 2007 after a heart attack at the age of 72.
