Bell's Hill

The Bell's Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 406 m high elevation lies on the western border of the Scottish Council Area Midlothian on the western flank of the approximately 25 km long range of hills. The western flank of the Black Hills is already partially in the area of the adjacent Council Area Edinburgh . Around 300 m west of the main dome, a 392 m high secondary dome rises. The closest settlements are the small towns of Balerno and Penicuik , which are five kilometers northwest and southeast respectively. The neighboring hills are Harbor Hill in the north, Castlelaw Hill in the northeast, Turnhouse Hill in the southeast and Black Hill in the southwest.

Surroundings

The Logan Burn was dammed up along the eastern flank of Bell's Hill to form the Glencorse Reservoir . The reservoir was established in the 1820s. It served the water supply of Edinburgh , but also the supply of the mills along the North Esk , in which the draining Glencorse Burn flows. In 1851 a second reservoir was added upstream with the Loganlea Reservoir , located between Black Hill and Carnethy Hill . About two kilometers to the west, at the foot of Black Hill, are two more reservoirs, the Threipmuir Reservoir and the Harlaw Reservoir .

There is a boundary stone between Bell's Hill and Harbor Hill, which marks the boundary between Midlothian and the City of Edinburgh. The unadorned stone bears the inscription "WD" for War Department .
