The Harbor Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 421 m high elevation is on the western flank of the approximately 25 km long range of hills on the border of the Scottish Council Areas Midlothian in the east and Edinburgh in the west. The closest settlement is Currie, 3.5 km to the west . The southern Edinburgh district of Colinton is roughly the same distance to the north. The neighboring hills are Capelaw Hill in the northeast, Castlelaw Hill in the east and Bell's Hill in the south.
Surroundings
The Bonaly Reservoir was dammed on the northern flank of the Harbor Hills . The reservoir was completed in 1853 and serves to supply Edinburgh with water. At the top of Harbor Hill is an unadorned concrete boundary stone. It bears the inscription "WD" for War Department . Another stone of this type stands between Bell's Hill and Harbor Hill.
There is an abandoned quarry to the east of the hilltop. The system measures around 30 m in diameter at a depth of 1.8 m. It is not recorded on the first and second editions of the Ordnance Survey maps from 1854 and 1905 and is therefore possibly more recent.
