The Bonaly Reservoir is a reservoir in Scotland .
geography
The approximately 230 m long and 160 m wide lake is located at a height of around 350 m in the south of the Council Area Edinburgh on the western flank of the Pentland Hills . The southern foothills of Edinburgh begin around 1.5 km to the north. To the east and south respectively rise Capelaw Hill (454 m) and Harbor Hill (421 m).
Various mountain streams feed the small reservoir. The only drain is the Dean Burn , which drains from the north bank. After a few hundred meters it flows into the Bonaly Burn , which flows out of the Torduff Reservoir and Clubbiedean Reservoir to the west . The final earth wall is reinforced with stone.
history
The construction of the damming of the Dean Burn was completed in 1853. On a map of the Ordnance Survey from 1855, the Bonaly Reservoir is named but not shown as a lake. A lake can only be seen at the location on the new edition that was created around 40 years later. The reservoir serves to supply Edinburgh with water.
