Bellabeg House
Bellabeg House is a manor house in the Scottish village of Bellabeg in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 2006.
history
As with the nearby Skellater House , it is an early seat of a laird from the Forbes clan . Bellabeg House was believed to have been built between 1690 and 1730. John Forbes was born in 1707 in the present building or in a previous building . In 1765 minor alterations were made and the kitchen wing was integrated in the early 20th century. The property, inherited within the family, served as a convalescent home for Belgian soldiers during the First World War . These are probably also the builders of the enclosure fence. In the later 20th century a wing was added on the west side.
