The Bellerive Oval is a stadium in Bellerive , Hobart, Australia . It is mainly used for sporting events such as cricket and Australian football .

history

The stadium's origins date back to the late 19th century when Australian football and cricket games were held in the area around what is now the stadium. In 1913 the land was bought by the local city government and designated as a sports area. Up until the 1970s there was little development in the infrastructure. It wasn't until the Tasmanian Cricket Council moved here in 1977 that the stadium was significantly expanded. At the end of the 20th century the stadium was renovated and 16,000 seats have been available since it opened in 2003. Another development in 2015 increased the number of seats to currently 20,000.
