Ben Fayot (born June 25, 1937 in Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg politician .

Ben Fayot studied in Paris at the Sorbonne and then at the Instituts d'études politiques . Until 1984 he was a language professor at the Institut supérieur d'études et de recherches pédagogiques ( ISERP , now part of the University of Luxembourg ). He was a member of the party leadership (Comité directeur) of the LSAP from 1978 to 1997 and party chairman from 1985 to 1997. In 1981 he was elected to the municipal council of Luxembourg City. In 1984 he was elected deputy to the Chamber , which he remained until 1989. He was a member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1999. From 2004 to 2009 he was President of the LSAP parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies. He was a Luxembourg member of the European Convention . Among other things, he is the author of the book Socialism in Luxembourg. He is also a regular contributor to the Tageblatt and has published historical studies. His son Franz is also politically active: he has been a member of the Chamber since 2013, with a brief interruption, and President of the LSAP since January 2019.
