Ben Gardane or Ben Guerdane ( Arabic بن قردان, DMG Bin Qardān ) is a city and a delegation with around 80,000 inhabitants in southeastern Tunisia .
location
Ben Gardane is only a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast or the Bahiret el Bibane lagoon at an altitude of about 15 m above sea level. d. M. about 77 km (driving distance) southeast of Medenine or about 80 km northeast of Tataouine . The border with neighboring Libya is in Ras Ajdir and is only about 30 km to the east.

The residents of Ben Gardane live to a large extent from - not always entirely legal - border traffic with neighboring Libya.
history
For a long time Ben Gardane was only an insignificant desert settlement. Only after Tunisia's independence did the population continue to grow due to immigrants from the surrounding area and from Libya. In the wake of the civil war that has raged in Libya since 2011, numerous refugees have again come to the city.
