Benjamin David "Ben" McEachran (* 24. November 1980 in Rockhampton , Queensland , † 27. February 2015 in Calliope , Queensland) was an Australian boxer in light heavyweight .
Career
He was Australian Champion in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. At Oceanic Championships he won the gold medal in 2001 and 2002, the bronze medal in 2000 and the silver medal in 2004. In 2002 he won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester . In 2003 he took part in the World Championships in Bangkok and reached the second round, where he was eliminated by Aleksy Kuziemski . In 2006 he again won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne .
End of career and death
In August 2006, while mediating a dispute outside a Gladstone hotel, Ben McEachran was knocked down with a brick and seriously injured. He suffered several facial fractures that were treated with steel plates and screws. He spent three weeks in the hospital and had to end his career for health reasons.
The husband and father of one daughter disappeared after leaving his job on February 26, 2015 and was found dead in Calliope the next day.
