Benjamin Russell Mackintosh Stoneham, Baron Stoneham of Droxford (born August 28, 1948 ) is a British peer , journalist and politician.

Stoneham was initially involved in politics for Labor . At the age of 29, he was a Labor candidate in the Saffron Walden constituency by-election . He got 14.6% of the vote. Later he was treasurer of the Campaign for Labor Victory . He later joined the Social Democratic Party with many of the leading figures in this campaign . Stoneham was a candidate for the SDP in the 1983 and 1987 parliamentary elections in the Stevenage constituency . In 1983 he achieved the best social democratic result of a non-office holder and lost just under 1700 votes.

In 2004 and 2010 he ran for the Winchester district assembly .

He has been active with the Liberal Democrats since 2003 . From 2003 to 2010 he was executive director of the party under the leadership of Charles Kennedy and Nick Clegg .

On January 17, 2011, he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Stoneham of Droxford , of Meon Valley in the County of Hampshire . He gave his inaugural address on January 20, 2011.
