Benjamin Thatcher (born November 30, 1975 in Swindon ) is a retired Welsh football player .

Career

The England-born Welsh international began his professional career at Millwall FC , the English cult club. In 1996 he moved to Wimbledon FC , another English cult club. His first major professional club was Tottenham Hotspur , to which the left-back moved in 2000. The Welshman played for Leicester City in the 2003/2004 season before moving to Manchester City at the beginning of the 2004/2005 season. He stayed there until January 2007 when he joined Charlton Athletic . With the club he was relegated at the end of the 2006/2007 season . He remained loyal to the club in the Football League Championship , but left it in summer 2008 to join league rivals Ipswich Town . He ended his career there in 2010.

Thatcher played a total of seven times for the Welsh national football team .
