Bieniów (German historically Benau , Lower Sorbian Bjenow ) is a place and Schulzenamt in the rural municipality Żary in the Lubusz Voivodeship in Poland . In 2011, 871 people lived here.

The place extends along a road for several kilometers. It is 10 kilometers west of Żary (Sorau). There are rail connections to the lines from Zielona Góra to Żary and from Berlin via Wrocław to Vienna.

history

The place was a Slavic settlement. The earliest mention of a Seyfridus de Benyn (Seyfried von Benyn) is from 1329 . In the following centuries there were frequent changes of owners, from the von Pack, von Bieberstein, von Promnitz families and others.

In the 19th century, Benau got a rail connection.

The place has belonged to Poland since 1945.
