description

Figure of a saint in the Benedictine cave

The cave in the White Jura δm is five meters long, three meters high and also three meters wide. It is a through cave sloping to the northwest side, the rear part of which was filled in. From the Danube side (south side) it is closed with a steel grille.

As the origin of the name suggests, the Käpfle is possibly a prehistoric hilltop settlement. So far, no finds are known from the Benediktushöhle.

In the cave there is a life-size portrait of a saint of seated Benedict of Nursia (* around 480; † 547).

Emergence

The cave in the breakthrough valley of the Upper Danube was created by the Danube through a combination of corrosion and erosion .
