Benelux hit parade

The Benelux hit parade was a weekly sales hit parade in Dutch for the three countries Netherlands , Belgium and Luxembourg . It was broadcast in this form from April 1975 to November 1983 on 1440 kHz (208 m). The disc jockeys were Frans van der Drift (from 1975 to 1980) and Peter van Dam (from 1980 until the program was discontinued). The change took place by means of a joint moderation on April 20, 1980. Substitutions were made by Mike Verdrengh , who regularly moderated the half-hour program "RTL International" from Monday to Friday and the half-hour RTL tip parade on Saturdays , both in Flemish. The so-called "Power-Play" was determined from this broadcast, a song that was then played every day for a week, also as the final song of the Benelux Top 20.

Due to the tight broadcasting time of just one hour for 21 songs, the DJs had to be very time-efficient. On the one hand, the consistent "close-to voice speaking" (the announcement was made over the instrumental introduction until shortly before the beginning of the singing), on the other hand, a relatively early rejection by the DJ (e.g. soon after the musical bridge or after the instrumental part of the song).

The musical orientation of the Benelux Top 20 was diverse. The inhomogeneous structure of the 3 Benelux countries with their different language and cultural regions and the influence of the neighbors Germany and France played a role. There was always only one commercial, first for Mickey Mouse , then for a dish soap. The spot disappeared in mid-1982, which saved time for the music .

The reception quality of the Benelux Top 20 in Germany was often poor, especially in the summer months, especially since the transmission antennas were oriented towards the United Kingdom . When Central European Summer Time was introduced in 1980 , the reception situation worsened due to the now even less favorable position of the sun. In the often inadequate radio reception of medium wave the reason is probably to look for why the Benelux top 20 was hardly known in Germany and is now almost forgotten (as opposed to English-language program at the same frequency , which sent in receiving more favorable times).

At the end of November 1983 the Benelux Top 20 was discontinued. The last number 1 was the Austrian-German band DÖF with CODO.
