KK Benesse Holdings (formerly Benesse Corporation , Japanese 株式会社 ベ ネ ッ セ ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス , Kabushiki-gaisha Benesse Hōrudingusu ) is a Japanese corporation specializing in distance learning , publishing and geriatric care , founded in Okayama city. It is listed on the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges under the first heading (securities identification number 9783). The company v. a. as the parent company of Berlitz language schools .
Origin of the company name
The name is derived from the Latin words "bene" (good) and "esse" (to be).
development
On January 28, 1955 , the bookstore Fukutake Aktiengesellschaft ( 株式会社 福 武 書店 ) was founded. In 1994 the Fukutake Shoten Tokyo Building (now the Benesse Corporation Tokyo Building) in the city of Tama , Tokyo, was completed as the second company headquarters. In April 1995, the company was called the Benesse Corporation, and in 2009 it was renamed Bennese Holdings.
A milestone in the company's history was the takeover of the majority of the shares in Berlitz Sprachschulen after they went public in 1989; in 2001, the Benesse Corporation acquired 100% of Berlitz Sprachschulen.
