Benhur Salimbangon

Benhur L. Salimbangon (born June 3, 1945 ) is a Filipino economic manager and politician of the Lakas-Demokratikong Kristiyano at Muslim (Lakas-CMD), the National Unity Party (NUP) and the provincial party One Cebu (1-CEBU) 2007 member of the House of Representatives .

Life

After attending school, Salimbangon completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Cebu Institute of Technology - University (CIT-U), from which he graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Mechanical Engineering). After various professional activities, he became a public service employee in 1975 and was initially an administrative officer and between 199 and 1980 treasurer of the municipality of Medellin . He then worked in business, initially managing director of the electricity company Cebu Electric Cooperative-II between 1980 and 1989 and vice-president of the fertilizer manufacturer Atlas Fertilizer from 1989 to 1991 . He began his political career in 1992 as a member of the parliament of Cebu Province ( Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Cebu ), to which he was a member until 1998. He then returned to business and was Managing Director of MCF Property Ventures from 1998 to 2007 .

In the elections of May 14, 2007 Salimbangon was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives for the Lakas Democratic Cong Kristiyano at Muslim (Lakas-CMD) and has since represented the constituency of Cebu 4th District in this . In the elections on May 10, 2010 , he was re-elected with 137,324 votes (67.48 percent) and was able to prevail clearly against the candidate of the Liberal Party , Celestino Martinez III, who received 66,165 votes (32.52 percent). In the elections of May 13, 2013, he was re-elected for the National Unity Party (NUP) with 117,844 votes (55.73 percent) and was again able to prevail against the liberal Celestino Martinez III, who this time received 71,438 votes (33.79 percent) ) got. In the current 16th legislative period , which runs from 2013 to 2016  , he is chairman of the House Committee for Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources . He is responsible for all matters that are directly and generally related to aquaculture, fishery production and fisheries development. The committee also deals with aquaculture companies, the use of water resources, research and technological use of fresh water and fishery cultures, and education and training in the field of aquaculture and fisheries. The committee is also responsible for the protection of streams, rivers, lakes and other fishery resources, the production and development of fish ponds and fishery cultures, including the related technical, financial and warranty programs.

Since Salimbangon has reached the maximum consecutive eligibility of nine years, he will not be allowed to run again in the upcoming elections on May 9, 2016 , and will therefore leave the House of Representatives. He also serves as president of the Rotary International Club in Bogo City .
